Q: What the heck is Pilates?
A: Pilates (pul-LAT-teez)is a unique exercise system that combines six principles: balance, coordination, control, precision, dynamics and flow of movement. Created by Joseph H Pilates (hence the name) in the early 1900s, Pilates stretches and strengthens the entire body from the tiniest skeletal muscles to the largest ones. Pilates is a workout using resistance training on specifically designed apparatus to help you get an intense workout without unnecessary stress and wear and tear on your body. It helps to reshape your body which will become longer, leaner and more toned. It will also improve your posture, achieving the perfect balance between strength and flexibility and is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension. Targeting the deep postural muscles, it works by building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. People of all ages can achieve their goals using Pilates training.
